Genealogy online is
just like doing genealogy the old fashioned way...only not. It
would be nice if you could just get a record online and call it done.
But you can't. Genealogy doesn't work that way. It never did.
Genealogy is all about the documentation. Every word, every
line, every "fact," has to be documented. It doesn't matter
where you get it, or even how you get it. It doesn't matter what
the "it" even is...document it.
In the old days, pardon the
expression, pre-Internet...genealogy was done long hand. Using
letters, stamps, books, county clerks, cemeteries, cameras, cars,
road trips, court records, deed books, census records, microfilm and
everyone knew where the nearest Latter Day Saints Library was.
Now we have the Internet and
most of that information has been copied, scanned or transcribed.
Thousands of books. Cemetery records, death records, court records,
deed books...tons of copied information. Are you
getting the idea?
Probably not. The problem here is that information that's
been copied to the Internet has had the chance to be transcribed
WRONG at least once. That doesn't mean you should discount it. What it does mean
is always, always document your information with the source.
The only time you can rely on
it is if the source is the original and in genealogy that rarely
exists. Most sources are transcribed or told to someone else
or told by someone else. The best you can do frequently is
document everything with as much documentation as you can. I
repeat...document everything!
As your researcher I will endeavor to provide you
with as much information as possible to see that you have a complete
record, document and source for all work that is being
performed by me. For more detail on why you should choose me check
About Me FAQ.
I also offer a
custom-made
Heritage Album for your genealogy. If you have several lines
done you can now purchase a lovely book to hold all your ancestry.
The book contains a family tree that has an overview of your family.
A genealogy report which shows some of the detail, such as siblings
of your ancestors. A documented events report which outlines
all the documentation by which the "facts" are presented.
Aerial photos, where available, of where they lived, any
news items found, and a copy of any biographies that are found on
your ancestors, each section having its own custom made photo
quality dividers and tied together in a beautiful album.
Since each book is customized it's hard to say what it might contain
specifically, and requests can be made for such events as special
Holiday traditions and personal memories.
