Why Choose Me?

How long have you been doing genealogy?

I started doing genealogy over twenty one years ago when my grandmother died.  Going through her papers my mother found three small pieces of note paper with a few generations on them her brother's wife had traced.  I'd heard a few rumors of glory from my grandmother so with high hopes I took the papers and started my trek through history.

What genealogy classes have you taken?

I worked at genealogy the only way one could in those days, through the mail mostly.  Through the Latter Day Saints Libraries and by hiring researchers in the locations I thought I might have ancestors.  (That last one cost me a lot.)  My formal education was through Santa Rosa Adult Education, Santa Rosa, California and the LDS in Ukiah, California.

How familiar are you with computer searches?

My dad was among the pioneers in the computer industry (I'm talking the 40s here) so I was always pretty comfortable banging away at the keys and always had one close by (as soon as they fit inside the house).  Of course the Internet was a way into the future so all a computer was in those days was a good place to organize information.   So it seems like I've always used a computer.  But over the last 15 years, I have done various types of searches the better part of 12-16 hours a day or more.

So, why should I hire you when there are so many people out there?

Because I have memberships to several websites, not just one or two of the main ones that provide cursory information such as census records and family trees, aside from knowledge and experience.  And because I care how this turns out and my clients are people, not numbers.

What is the importance of experience?

By experience I know what to look for and where to look to find it.  I know the importance of little bits of information that many people don't and have years of practice putting the pieces together.

Some of the "big" membership sites offer their research assistants for a fee, why not use them?

They limit themselves to the use of their "family" of websites and not to the wealth of websites I have at my disposal.

What type of information can I hope to receive?

Basic searches include all available census records.  In-depth searches include census records and may include printed biographies, newspaper articles, obituaries, birth announcements, business announcements, directory listings, passenger lists, cemetery listings and more depending on what is available.

And don't forget to have a look at the beautiful Heritage Album that I'll be happy to make to hold all these precious documents for you.  They are fine heirloom quality, so you'll want an extra one made for the kids.

In case you're still undecided, let me just add that I put a lot into each client and have a sincere desire to help.  I know where to find the information, then how to put it together.  It isn't simple, you'll need an expert to locate all the available information and I can do that.  All information is confidential.  References available upon request.

I hope that I've given you the information you need to make your decision, but if you have any questions I hope you'll feel free to contact me by E-mail at Linda@TheOnlineGenealogist.com or call toll free 1-866-254-3648
